The holidays
::::::::::::::::
The holidays is a moment of great feast for us human.
We often have many parties, which implies that we will
receive a lot of visitors at our house.
This is great, but it also brings many dangers into our
puppy's life. This is why I have decided to share a few
tips with you for the holiday season.
#1: Dogs Are For Life, Not Just For Christmas
We have all heard this famous saying, yet so many puppies
are given as a Christmas gift and returned a few days/weeks
later because the family does not want to take care of the
pet. This saddens me a lot I have to say. It is important
that people know that having a dog is a commitment for many
years, in time AND money.
My advice : If you know someone who wants a dog for Christmas,
why not buy them a video or a good book about "how to choose
the proper dog breed" instead? This way, after the holiday
have passed, the person/family can take their time to decide
if they really want a puppy.
#2: The tree
If you own a very young puppy, remember that it will be
attracted to your Christmas tree. No matter if the tree is
real or artificial, the needles can harm your puppy. If you
have a natural tree, don't use preservative in the water,
in case your puppy decide to drink it! To decorate the tree,
try to avoid using eatable ornament, or very fragile glass
ornaments that can brake easily.
#3: Alcohol and chocolate
Chocolate (especially dark one) and alcohol are toxic for dogs.
Make sure you don't have chocolate easily reachable.
#4: Turkey
The turkey bones can harm your puppy, so make sure you put them
away properly once the dinner is over.
#5: The guests!
People who like dogs can easily give many treats to your puppy
during the evening, especially if your dog has cute sad eyes!
Keep an eye on your puppy because if 20 guests give a few treats
to your puppy, the poor thing will quickly be sick.
My advice : every time I have guests at home, I always tell them
right away the followings :
(I have a cocker spaniel, with very sad eyes and a huge appetite!)
- Chocolate can kill my puppy (this scares the guests so they never
give any to your dog)
- I only allow bread to my puppy (by saying this, people are
happy because they can give treats, and my dog is happy, and
I am happy too because my dog is not sick!).
Have a safe holiday season with you puppy!

The cutest thing that YOUR dog does...
::::::::::::::::
- Well here is something cute. Yesterday Archie, who is a
minature Dachsund and is just a puppy was curled right up to
my other dog Sadey, who is a huge Labrador Retrever. Man was
it cute! Usually sadey would just turn around and snap at him.
But this she didn't. She just kept on sleeping and so did Archie.
- My dog is a beagle/bassett hound mix named Buddy. The
funniest/stupidest thing about him is that he thinks he's a cat.
He always prefers my cats' generic meow mix over his food, whether
it's dry or canned. He loves big bowls of milk, and is far more
interested in making friends with other cats than other dogs. He
also climbs in the window, and I've caught him a few times trying
to crawl into the litter box when he needs to go. I'm always telling
people that I have 3 cats that think they are human, a dog that
thinks he's a cat, and a husband that I treat like a dog. (HA HA!!!)
